We are proud to say that Dr. Anderson does all of the cleanings himself. We use ultrasonic technology for our cleanings, which can get to those hard-to-reach areas. It's better than the usual "scrapers."
If it has been awhile since your last cleaning, you may require more than one visit to completely clean your teeth.
If we feel that you are suffering from more severe gum disease, we may recommend root planing and scaling. These measures can be instrumental in preventing bone loss and helping you to keep your teeth.
Root Planing & Scaling
Root planing and scaling is a procedure in which Dr. Anderson removes tartar from below the gum line. Root surfaces are cleaned and smoothed with specially designed instruments. It is important to remove the tartar from these areas, because aside from the bacterial toxins that irritate the gums, the rough surfaces of tartar make it easier for bacteria to gain a foothold. This can lead to both tooth decay (cavities) and gum disease.
